The district of Gasawa is situated in the south-western part of kujawsko-pomorskie province. It covers an area of 13500 ha and has a population of 5200, most of whom are tradespeople or craftspeople. The environment is clean and unpolluted, and it is an ideal place to enjoy nature.

The oldest document which mentions Gasawa is a bull of Pope Innocent II dated 1136. For many centuries (from 1388 until 1934) Gasawa had the status of a town. It obtained its own coat of arms in mediaeval times.

Today the district provides ideal conditions for tourists and holiday-makers. There are many valuable historic buildings to visit, including wooden churches and old manor-houses dating form the 18th and 19th centuries. Of particular charm are the wooden crosses and the roadside shrines.
The district's most valuable assets are its forests and lakes, next to which many holiday accommodation sites are situated. There are also a large number of scenic viewpoints. One of the district's main tourist attraction is the Museum and Archaeological Reserve at Biskupin. Here You can also take a ride on a preserved narrow-gauge railway, which runs from Znin. In nearby Wenecja You can visit Poland's only Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum.

The district has achieved no small amount of sporting success. Its speciality is field hockey, in which local teams have won numerous championships. |
